New legislation for Underground Petroleum Storage Systems (UPSS)
New legislation for sites containing UPSS commenced mid-2008. The MTA recognises that some of the new requirements are expensive and arduous, particularly the requirement for groundwater monitoring wells, which could costs tens of thousands of dollars to install before the required point in time of June 2011. The Service Station Association, which is affiliated with the MTA, has been lobbying the Government regarding this legislation and has also established business links to help MTA Members to implement various aspects of the legislation. Please download the Information Guide from this website and contact the MTA if you have any questions, would like to be kept updated on this issue or would like a template for the Environment Protection Plan mailed to you.
